All things were
made by him, and nothing was made without him. John 1:3
Erin Marie Burns
From where I write there are
miracles. Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary is built on a beautiful ridge of the
great battlefield. So much history is found the magnificent fields. When
starting seminary a person understands, God will be there. What is found, the
visible signs of God’s love and miracles! Every day is a new wonder as I look
out and see something new. Especially new ways of looking at things never
perceived the day before.
The
eternal light monument is where I glimpsed a miracle this year. One evening
just before starting my first year of studies, it occurred that I could watch
the sun disappear as the night sky rose. This particular monument is very
large, concrete, and erected as an honor to the soldiers who died almost 150
years ago. There was the most amazing site! The colors through the sky were the
most vibrant imaginable. There was white, and blues, and yellows, and red! The
red hue shot across the sky reaching out and radiating the mountains to the
right of me.
Those
mountains were large, quite, and never changing. I wondered how long they have
been here. How the heavenly father could have created such beautiful sites. In
the distance, was the historic seminary.
During the battle buildings were lost, yet the same buildings stand
where many wounded were hospitalized and where the first day of the battle
began. To the left was the town of Gettysburg. The streetlights were now
visible under the night sky. Lights began shining all over the horizon from the
college and the streets of town. What a wonder thought how this town was made
by man, but originally by God.
The
scene miraculous, yes! The beauty and the wonder of God’s creation are
astounding. So often in the rush of life, we forget to look for those little
miracles. Every day we should be seeking those sights and wonder of nature at a
local lake, in the eyes of our children, and in those who were afflicted and
now healed. During our Easter
celebrations let us remember the miracles of empty tombs. Praise God for all
his miracles in our lives and for the special miracle of his son, Jesus Christ!
